2004 Phil and Janet Hehnlin, 5 acres Jasper Township, Midland County
Over the years, Phil and Janet Hehnlin have participated in a variety of conservation programs on their farm. Under a Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program initiative, they converted 5 acres of farmland along the Bear Head Drain into a native grass filter strip to benefit water quality and wildlife habitat. In 2004, the Hehnlins made that filter strip permanent by selling a conservation easement to the Conservancy. The conservation easement guarantees that the property continues to provide benefits to water quality and wildlife habitat forever.
