Bill Meek asked The Little Forks Conservancy to visit his 75-acre farmstead after being invited to our annual picnic by a friend. The property features 50 acres of agricultural fields and wetlands adjacent to the northern branch of Swan Creek, known as Whitmore Drain. A seven-acre woodlot of mostly white pine was planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps to prevent the erosion of a sand ridge located in the southern portion of the property.

In 2001, Mr. Meek donated a conservation easement to ensure that the land continues to be used for farming. The easement also protects the small woodlots on the property from being cleared. In 2005, the property was transferred to his granddaughter with the conservation easement intact.
