As many of you are already aware, 105 Post Street has suffered considerable damage. The entire basement, where half of our staff members had individual offices, stewardship supplies, programming materials, our student gear locker, waders, snowshoes, binoculars, main printer, and much much more, was under over three feet of contaminated water.
Two of the preserves, Averill and Forestview had significant damage and were likely under 10+ feet of water and when the water receded left debris on the ground and shifted a few structures (check out the videos below).
Thanks to volunteers and Huron Pines AmeriCorps we have been able to return or build anew the structures at Forestview and begin to remove the trash from the floodplains. Many hours of work still to be done to remove the trash but we are glad the preserves can continue to be used for recreation.
We continue to work from home as much as possible when we aren't working in the field and explore options for our next phase in office space and storage. In the meantime, if you would like to help us rebuild, our immediate needs are monetary. You can donate at the link below. If you would like to volunteer any specific help, items, or to receive future contact information about volunteer opportunities, please email Sara Huetteman. Staff members look forward to serving our community as much as possible throughout this.
Thank you, and please stay safe.
